The XY

The XY (Also called Who Runs The World ) Written by Virginia Bergin Originally published in 2017 About 320 pages Rate: 2/5 My summary of The XY It's been over 60 years since a virus took out almost all XYs (males). River is wondering about outside of her village when she sees an XY on the verge of dying. Instead of letting him rot, she decides to take him back to her village where he mother and grandma secretly hide the boy and nurse him back to health.  No one understands how he could have survived the virus. However, he can't go back to the camp, otherwise he would risk infecting the other boys and he can't stay with them because it's not allowed. In this world, women have been taught to fear the men and boys have been taught to fear women. It's hard to say whether either of them is justified after River begins to uncover the secrets that surround her. My thoughts on The XY The author really knows how to use her keyboard... (and I'm not just talking about th

Mockingjay

Mockingjay ( The Hunger Games Book 3) Written by Suzanne Collins Originally published in 2010 About 390 pages Rate: 4.5/5 My summary of Mockingjay After Katniss' arrow hit the force field during the 75th Hunger Games everything turned to chaos. Everyone seemed to be in on the escape plan aside from Peta and Katniss. However, only one of them was saved from the capitol, the Mockingjay, aka Katniss. Now that Katniss and the other rebels are somewhat safe in district 13, Panem is still struggling to fight back against President Snow. Katniss has to collect herself enough to record propaganda videos for the districts who still haven't helped with the rebellion. However, every time she makes a move so does Snow. My thoughts on Mockingjay There was so much going on within the book and sometimes it was a good thing, but other times it was very draining. For example, it's logical, but the "star squads" mission took a very long time to end and there was a lot of things

Catching Fire

Catching Fire   ( The Hunger Games Book 2) Written by Suzanne Collins Originally published in 2009 About 390 pages Rate: 4.9/5 My summary of Catching Fire (warning there are spoilers for book 1) After winning the hunger games Katniss and Peta have to keep up with the star-crossed lovers act in front of the cameras, but for Peta things aren't just for show. Peta and Katniss tour the other districts as per usual. However, once they get to Rue's district things change. An uprising begins because of Katniss and Peta's actions and words.  After a threat from President Snow, Katniss realizes that they have already lost. The victors from the previous hunger games are sent back into the arena after uprisings start in multiple districts, because Katniss is the only girl from district twelve to win, she enters the games again.  My thoughts on Catching Fire First off I just wanted to talk about how oddly inaccurate the summary on the back of the book is! Peta and Gale aren't t

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games (Book 1) Written by Suzanne Collins Originally published in 2008 About 370 pages Rate 4.8/5 My summary of The Hunger Games Katniss lives in one of the twelve districts of Panem and every year The Hunger Games is held as a celebration for the people of the capitol. However, for the people within the 12 districts is it a reminder that no matter how hard they try, they will never be able to outsmart or take down the capitol. Two children from each district are selected at random and put in The Hunger Games where they fight to the death. Like everyone else, Katniss was not planning on getting her name drawn, but when her little sister's gets drawn, she can't sit back and do nothing. My thoughts on The Hunger Games This book is one of those ones that you wish you didn't have to put down. The only reason I stopped reading was because I my butt was starting to hurt from sitting down for too long. I think that also had to do with the way that the chapters were s

Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies Written by William Golding Originally published in 1954 About 200 pages Rate 4.9/5 My summary of Lord of the Flies A group of boys, ages 6-12, end up on a deserted island with no adults because their plane crashed. Ralph and Piggy find a conch and use it to call a meeting to gather all the boys together. A choir boy named Jack insists on being the leader, but because Ralph blew the conch the group deems him worthy of being called chief. Rules are put into action, but soon the boys grow restless having only fruit. Jack decides to lead a pack of boys to hunt for a pig. They find pleasure in the hunt, but feel as if something is watching them. Some of them start to think that maybe they are the ones being hunted. My thoughts on Lord of the Flies The only reason why I didn't give this book a solid five out of five was because of the fact that all the characters are boys and sometimes when there was dialogue it was tricky trying to tell who was talking because they a
