This is probably one of the most talked about Stephen King novels. It is also the second longest book Stephen King has ever written. I feel pretty cool being able to say I read the entire thing, granted I had to start using the audiobook, I still followed along and annotated so I would argue that that still counts.
For those of you who are unaware of the fact Stephen King has a macroverse, now you know. It is apart of this macroverse and I applaud Stephen King's ability to create such a world. If you want more information about the macroverse: Click this link.
It was the last book I had to read for my Themes in Literature course. After reading so many Stephen King books I felt/feel beat. The professor chose a bunch of books that dealt with parental abuse among other tragic things. Maybe I would have liked It if I had more time to read it, but I think the real reason I didn't like it was because of the child gang bang, the way Stephen King writes all the women/girls, the amount of N-word usage, and so on.
For the first time, maybe ever, I would have to say that the movie was better than the book. Yikes.
Now I don't want to spoil too many things, but I think it's important to point out all the things I didn't like about It because after all this is a book review.
What is It about?
The children of Derry live in terror, only they can see the awfulness within the city. There is a strange creature wondering around in the sewers that looks strangely like a clown, but when you look a little closer, It bites.
Once you see the clown it's already too late, except if your one of these people:
![]() |
Eddie, Stan, Richie, Mike, Bill, Bev, & Ben |
You'll find out way these people are so important about 700 pages in. These people are the only ones who are able to fight It, but it's not easy, after all there is seven of them and one of It.
My thoughts on It
Well... as I was starting to say earlier, the way Stephen King writes the women compared to the men in this book is ANNOYING. Ben is the fat little boy struggling with his self image, then all the sudden his mom is the reason why he is fat because she's worried about him too much. It's his mom's fault he is fat because she's worried. Eddie's mom is fat just like Ben, but when she's fat she's all gross and nasty and controlling, not Ben though, he's just a sad little boy looking for love. We should feel bad for Ben, but not for Eddie's mom. You'll know there's a woman/girl character because oh guess what they have BREASTS, and their nipples are constantly getting hard whenever they get scared. LIKE WTF!
Another aspect I didn't really love was the gang bang, so spoilers. The kids (11 year old's) all have s*x with Beverly one by one. I have heard some people call this an orgy and that is not true, the boys do nothing to each other to help each other "bond." Weird as hell writing KIDS have s*x.
The loser's club is really cute and fun, and all the characters are pretty well thought out, to an extend. The movie story is pretty cool, it's just hard to focus on anything, but the negative. So I apologize for the lack of positivity here.
